Now we know what Solo is all about (and at least it’s not masturbatory)

Folks, this isn’t HBO, no leaked scripts here. Disney released an official synopsis for Solo: A Star Wars Story. No pictures. No trailer. Still.

Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

Solo: A Star Wars Story releases in U.S. theaters on May 25, 2018.

Key words: “dark”, “dangerous”, “criminal underworld” and “notorious gambler”, thus setting the scene for the space gangster odyssey we’ve been promised. Despite the lack of discernible visual imagery released to this point, I’m still optimistic for the one-off that I never asked for. It does have Emilia Clark and Donald Glover, and Chewy’s always Chewy. However, it still feels like Disney is playing Star Wars very safe – refusing to go off in any new directions from the original films, instead relying on prequels, sequels, origins and re-tellings of the same story. Will the next A Star Wars story take us somewhere new? Let’s sincerely hope so.

Also, QUESTION: Is Han Solo “one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes?” Really, there were only so many hero choices in the original trilogy, and is Han any less likely a hero than nerdy / whiny Luke Skywalker?

Also, QUESTION: Well, more of a statement really. Please, for the love of the force, don’t turn this into a gambling / casino movie! You’ve done it to James Bond, and you’ve even found a way with the latest Liam Neeson Taken flick— not Star Wars!
