Our first look at Godzilla vs. Kong comes from… action figures?

0

One gets the feeling that Godzilla vs. Kong, the bluntly-titled culmination of Legendary Pictures and Warners Bros’ “MonsterVerse” in which everyone’s favorite giant reptile slugs it out with the Empire State gorilla himself, was just on the cusp of its public reveal before the coronavirus pandemic hit.

Moved all around from release dates, the film was sitting with a November release date until being shuffled alongside other Warner Bros heavy-hitters, relegated now to a distant May 21, 2021 release date. We were close to the titanic tussle, a trailer just on the tip of our tongues, when a global pandemic got in the way. With nary a glance at the two beasts in action, fans have been left with their imaginations. Until now.

Via a Tweet from @KaijuNewsOutlet, an official image from an upcoming Playmates Toys release for the film gives us, well, pretty much what we all figure the film to be about: Godzilla looking to tear Kong’s throat out while the King tries to slug ‘Ol Scales before doing so. It’s a morsel, but it’s something.

Godzilla vs. Kong is directed by Adam Wingard, known for his solid genre work with You’re Next and The Guest. His most recent film was the live-action Death Note adaptation. On the human side of the cast, the film stars Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, and Kyle Chandler.

But we’re really here for the monsters.
