Peter Jackson may turn The Hobbit into three movies

During the Comic-Con, Peter Jackson showed off 12-minutes of footage from The Hobbit, the first part of which (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) comes out this December. Even though principle photography wrapped more than a week ago, Jackson indicated that he may shoot more footage and make a third Hobbit film.

There’s no word on what The Hobbit III: Elevenses with a Vengeance might entail. It probably won’t split the Battle of Five Armies into its own movie. Jackson’s hinted at an extended edition of The Hobbit, so the choice additions to the fight will appear in that. It might be a movie that connects The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, but that seems superfluous — a sort of third film as third nipple. Expect updates on this as we learn more.
