Princess Bride author wants sequel, lacks ideas

Princess Bride author William Goldman has admitted that he’d love to write a sequel to his most beloved creation, adapted into an imminently quotable movie in 1987, but has absolutely no clue how he’d go about it. The quote comes from the NYFF screening, which saw cast members Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Wallace Shawn, Carol Kane and Billy Crystal reunite in New York for a celebration of the movie’s legacy.

As much as everyone adores Princess Bride, if Goldman can’t come up with any ideas for a follow-up, he should just leave it alone. The story is perfectly self-contained, and a lesser sequel would only put a dampner on the movie’s legacy, especially were it turned into a movie. As the saying goes, if you rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles. Or perhaps that quote does not mean what I think it means. OH GOD I CAN’T STOP.
