Review: A Deadly Adoption

I haven’t told any of you this, but I’ve been a secret Lifetime junkie for years now. Thanks to my family only having one TV when we first got cable, I saw a lot of “Television for Women” with my mom (I mean, what was I supposed to do? Play outside instead like some nerd?), and I kind of fell in love with the network’s (and subsequent dedicated to film channel Lifetime Move Network years later) penchant for operatic drama. Although the years haven’t been kind to the actual women in those films, it’s always been awesomely goofy.

Which makes A Deadly Adoption one of the weirdest things to ever grace television. Hearing that Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig were starring in some sort of experiment, I had to see it for myself. It’s just as terrible as you’d imagine.

Terribly great.

A Deadly Adoption
Directors: Rachel Lee Goldenberg
Rated: NR
Release Date: June 20th, 2015 (Lifetime)

I have to wonder what exactly led up to this. I’m sure Lifetime is good on their end because for the first time in say, ever, folks actually watched the channel thanks to seeing two big comedians take on a “serious” Lifetime film. How serious? Deadly. In Adoption, Robert (Will Ferrell) and Sarah (Kristen Wiig) Benson lose a child after a pregnant Sarah falls off a dock. When the two choose to adopt, they allow the child’s mother Bridget to stay in their home until she has the baby. Then before they know it, Bridget reveals she’s not exactly what she seems and suddenly the adoption takes a deadly turn.
