Tom Holland denies casting rumors for Spider-Man 3

Spider-Man

In a new interview with Esquire, actor Tom Holland has denied the casting rumors surrounding the upcoming Spider-Man 3. For those out of the loop, speculation has been running rampant across the internet that former Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would be reprising their roles from the previous Spidey films in some kind of multiverse story. That idea was probably furthered strengthed with the last episode of WandaVision, but that’s getting off-topic.

As if decreed by the gods, Holland told Esquire, “No, no, they will not be appearing in this film. Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me. But as of yet, no. It’ll be a continuation of the Spider-Man movies that we’ve been making.”

Now, that doesn’t completely rule out the possibility. If you know anything about Tom Holland, it’s that he tends to accidentally spoil Marvel films during interviews. In the same interview, he even recounts how Tony Stark’s funeral in Avengers: Endgame was kept from him because of his loose lips. “In [Endgame], Robert Downey Jr.’s funeral scene, for the longest time I was under the impression that it was a wedding,” he recalled. “I’m 100 percent sure that they’re still tricking me.”

Even factoring that in, it probably would be way too big of a challenge to keep that kind of secret from Holland. Considering he’d have to be on screen with Maguire and Garfield for any of this to land, he likely knows whether or not they are in Spider-Man 3.
