Spidey takes down a car thief in this Spider-Man clip

I’m not gonna lie. I haven’t really been feeling the Amazing Spider-Man movie at all. I don’t like the fact that we’re telling Spider-Man’s origin story again, just a decade after the first movie with Tobey Maguire was released. And don’t give me that crap argument that it’s a completely different story, or a completely different take on it. Seriously, f**k you. Kid gets bitten by a spider, gets spider powers, uncle dies, kid becomes hero. This just happened. They can change the key, but the song’s still the same. Musical metaphor! I can buy that this may improve on the way Sam Raimi and co. told the origin story, but this doesn’t change the fact that it’s still the damn origin story.

All that said, I really like this clip. I like how the young Spider-Man is playful and quippy while also hanging on to some of that “I’m the victim of bullying and am taking that out on others just a bit,” cruelty that a teenaged Spider-Man might realistically have when dealing with criminals. I can dig it. I’m still shaky about the film itself, but I’m warming at least to Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of Spider-Man.
