Sylvester Stallone to channel his inner Snake Plissken in dystopian shoot-em-up Little America

Sylvester Stallone is a man in his 70’s who just can’t quit killing things. It’s weird to think that we live in a time where being incredibly old is no longer an action star’s death sentence. Hell, I won’t be surprised if the next Expendables comes out long after everyone involved has passed.

To keep this tanned husk of masculinity trucking, we’ll all have the good fortune of seeing Stallone in the upcoming Little America. The film, executive produced by Micheal Bay with Platinum Dunes, will see Stallone as a mercenary sent into the bankrupted warzone of America to save an Asian billionaire’s daughter.

This all sounds like a bit of right-wing power fantasy (though not quite as much as Stallone’s last film), with a bankrupted America ringing in deficit hawks’ ears. Of course America could never be bankrupted, because all of our debt is in our own currency which our own government could never run out of. Also, be prepared to see this crafted to appeal to the Chinese market with the film’s billionaire specifically made Asian. I’m sure that will make the politics of Little America that much more bizarre.

Weirdest of all, though, is that this film is being likened to Escape From New York. I have to wonder why Stallone, then? Kurt Russel is a mere 68 years young–practically a baby! I just don’t understand why producers didn’t aim the younger model. He has loads more charisma, too.
