The Boss edges out Batman v Superman at the box office

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice would inevitably drop to second place at the box office–such is the law of diminishing returns–yet who would have predicted that Melissa McCarthy’s The Boss would knock the boys out? The Boss made $23.48 in its opening weekend, which edged out Batman v Superman‘s third week gross of $23.43. Meanwhile, Hardcore Henry debuted at fifth place, making just $5 million.

It’s looking like Batman v Superman will just cross over the $800 million mark worldwide, the supposed break-even point for the expensive production. (It’s at $783 million right now.) Making $1 billion, however, seems like a stretch. Regardless, the movie probably broke even or turned a profit already thanks to product placement and merchandise.

It’s okay about not making a billion on your franchise-starter, Warner Bros. It’s like my aunt Mona once said:

“There’s a time for love and a time for living: you take a chance and face the wind. There’s an open road and a road that’s hidden; a brand new life around the bend. There were times when I lost a dream or two. Found the trail, and at the end was you. There’s a path you take and a path untaken. The choice is up to you my friend. Nights are long, but you’re on your way to a brand new life–brand new life!–a brand new life around the bend.”
