The Uncharted film has suffered a delay, won’t release until 2021

Sony’s upcoming Uncharted film adaptation just can’t catch a break. In a report from Deadline a few days ago, Sony announced it would be pushing back the release date of Uncharted from December 18, 2020, to March 5, 2021. After losing its sixth director in Travis Knight and likely dealing with scheduling issues from star Tom Holland, Sony made the tough call to ensure it doesn’t mess up the big-screen debut of one of its premier franchises.

Uncharted’s shift to March 2021 is notable because it is now taking the place of the Masters of the Universe film. Originally slated for a December 2019 release, that movie has undergone its own set of delays and behind-the-scenes problems. Sony has put it on indefinite delay, though it could also be canning the film to make way for the Kevin Smith led Netflix animated series. That one is hard to say.

At this point, it might almost be wiser to shelf this project. Sony has been chatting about it for over a decade and things just keep going south. Maybe Nathan Drake isn’t destined for the big screen after all.
