Tomorrowland starts production, synopsis revealed

Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland has been making a few waves since the logo was revealed at D23, but not really anything substantial. In fact for a big Disney release we know very little about it. Thankfully press releases exist and along with the announcement that production on the George Clooney-starring toon has started comes a little plot description.

Bound by a shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as “Tomorrowland.”

Sounds like the perfect excuse to combine Bird’s love of nostalgia and Americana with the retro-future aspects of the Tomorrowland stuff at Disney Land and the writing of Damon Lindelof. With a team like this we might see a Disney animated feature that actually rivals a Pixar one. Then again, Lindelof could just get all weird with the screenplay and we’ll all be metaphored out of understanding even a children’s movie.
