Trailer: Dorothy and the Witches of Oz

We’ve already got around six Wizard of Oz films in production, what’s one more? A possible selling point of this take on L. Frank Baum’s classic story is that it’s actually done and ready to screen. Dorothy and the Witches of Oz is an independent film getting a limited release on February 17, 2012.

Like many modern Oz interpretations, this is a sequel about a grown-up Dorothy Gale, an author continuing her grandfather’s series of books about the magical land of Oz. However, she soon learns that her stories don’t come from her imagination, but her repressed memories. Soon, she’s facing off against The Wicked Witch of the West, death-by-water be damned.

I see some impressive production values for an indie fantasy film, but I’m not sold on all the generic fantasy creatures tearing up the Big Apple. Still, I give the film props for boasting that you can see it “in glorious 2D.”
