Trailer Round-up: Ewan McGregor is everywhere

Ok, so Ewan McGregor isn’t really everywhere per se, more like he’s in two trailers in this week’s Round-up. But there’s a trailer with James McAvoy putting on his best McGregor impression, so that counts right?. Also, there’s a trailer that promises dragons and completely fails in delivering said promise and another trailer that doesn’t promise talking dogs and totally delivers talking dogs! Oh how zany these Trailer Round-ups have come to be.

Perfect Sense
http://publishers.springboard.gorillanation.com/admin/videos/new_edit/381/245653
Staring: Ewan McGregor, Eva Green and the 4 Horsemen.
Synopsis: Man meets woman, man and woman fall in love, they struggle to survive the end of days. You know … romance.

Notes:
+
Lovepocalypse
Perfect Sense doesn’t really make sense.
lack of Will Smith, a dog or mannequins.

Comments: Though the romance genre has been ravaged by the likes of Katherine Heigl, the thought of a love story-taking place during the apocalypse seems interesting enough.
Verdict: When the girlfriend complains we never see Romantic movies, will bring up watching this movie.

Beginners
http://publishers.springboard.gorillanation.com/admin/videos/new_edit/381/245645
Staring: Ewan McGregor (whoa, déjà vu) and Christopher Plummer
Synopsis: Man’s mother dies, finds out his father is gay and is stricken with cancer (gancer?). Also, talking dog.

Notes:
+
Talking dog comes completely out of left field, and I love it.
+ Christopher Plummer is delightful as a gay old man.
+ Mark Mills

Comments: As a fan of Mark Mills previous work (Thumbsucker), this film looks just as odd and kooky. Still, it’s all seems kind of sappy, so I’m hesistant to actually go to the theaters.
Verdict: Just like Thumbsucker, Netflix.

The Conspirator

http://publishers.springboard.gorillanation.com/admin/videos/new_edit/381/245649
Staring: James McAvoy doing his best Ewan McGregor impression.
Synopsis: Period piece in which James McAvoy sets out to find out who conspired to have Abraham Lincoln assassinated. It’s like JFK, but with a different president.

Notes:
+
Abraham Lincoln hunts vampires … no wait wrong movie.
History is sooooooo boring and strongly lacking in vampires.

Comments: If I were to watch this movie, I don’t think I’d pay much attention considering I’d spend the whole movie waiting for Kevin Costner to show up and look over footage of the assassination while muttering “Back, and to the left” to himself for 20 minutes.
Verdict: I’d rather go to the theater (ZING!)

There Be Dragons
http://publishers.springboard.gorillanation.com/admin/videos/new_edit/381/245657
Staring: not dragons.
Synopsis: Something about a revolution happening in a European country. Who cares, THERE ARE NO DRAGONS IN THIS MOVIE!

Notes:
Severe lack of dragons.

Comments: THERE ARE NO DRAGONS!
Verdict: Get some dragons, then we talk.

Peep World

http://publishers.springboard.gorillanation.com/admin/videos/new_edit/381/245639
Staring: Dexter, Dwight and Jean-Ralphio.
Synopsis: Dysfunctional family gathers at father’s 70th birthday and confront the youngest sibling about writing a tell-all book about their family.

Notes:
+
Awesome cast
+ Taraji P. Henson is not in a Tyler Perry movie.
+ Seems like The Royal Tenenbaums, only not excruciatingly dry.

Comments: It’ll be interesting to see Michael C. Hall revert to the dysfunctional straight man by way of Six Feet Under as well as see Rainn Wilson not play a complete weirdo.
Verdict: Because IFC has a VOD channel here in New York, I might be seeing this sooner than I think.
