Trailer: Super 8

Is it too early for me to jump on the Super 8 bandwagon? If anything, I’ve been riding this gravy train since the J.J. Abrams-written/directed film was announced. Today, the first full trailer was released and MAN, I’m so excited for it. If anybody wants an example of how a great trailer is supposed to look like, just watch this new footage.

Despite the two minute long clip, I still don’t know exactly what’s going on, which is AMAZING; Abrams (and producer Steven Spielberg) know how to cut a trailer. You get an idea (kids are shooting a film on a Super 8 when a train crashes and some entity is unleashed), but you’re still left in the dark to solve this mystery. The purpose of a trailer is supposed to get you hooked and curious about what the film is all about, and Abrams definitely doesn’t disappoint.

Is it just me, or did you guys get a Goonies vibe after watching it? You know you’re destined for a good thing when you find inspiration to do a Truffle Shuffle. Also, apologies to my fellow editor, Alex Katz, for having to follow up the lackluster The Smurfs trailer with this awesome spectacle.
