After what seems like a lifetime since its announcement, we finally have a date for the Rocko’s Modern Life special. Static Cling will be heading to Netflix on August 9, 2019. In addition to revealing that date, we also have a short clip for the feature that gives us a glimpse of the animation. Everything looks very nice in HD, but I feel like something is off with the humor.
Maybe it’s just having grown up for nearly 20 years since Rocko was actually on the air, but I don’t know if I’m sold on this. I was very excited when news broke of the special’s existence, but the supposed development hell it went through doesn’t instill me with confidence. There’s that and just how I’ve grown to accept that the series was “perfect” the way it ended. I’m not sure what a TV film could add to the legacy that is Rocko’s Modern Life.
Still, at least the project wasn’t dropped completely. I know creator Joe Murray was even confused about what was going on, so he’s got to be relieved that Nickelodeon is going forward with this. Hopefully, it lives up to fan expectations.
