Why I am pumped for ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’

Growing up in the 90’s and early 2000’s Sabrina The Teenage Witch on ABC became a household television staple for my family. Melissa Joan Hart who brought the Comicbook Witch to life became permanently linked with that character and I loved pretty much every episode and even the television films.

You can imagine my surprise and excitement when I found out Netflix was making a series dedicated entirely to her. This is a welcome change after Riverdale has had its turn in the spotlight (not that I didn’t like Riverdale). There is a twist however, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a dark and creepy update, unlike the wholesome iteration I grew up with. Am I disappointed? Not at all, I am ready to take on this new Sabrina for a new generation.

To revisit this series in a whole new way takes me back to the good old days of TGIF on ABC (god how I miss those days). The characters of Sabrina the Teenage Witch had and will always have a special place in my heart but now its time to go on a new adventure. While I am not exactly the horror junkie I am willing to give this new more true to the comics iteration a shot.

The premise of this new show takes us back to Sabrina’s early beginnings as a half-witch who is forced to make a life-altering decision on her sixteenth birthday. Join the Witches or remain with her human friends. From what we’ve seen in the trailer Sabrina seems to refuse to join the witches at first. but her refusal could bring about horrific events for her town of Greendale.

I was happy to see her boyfriend Harvey, her Aunts Hilda and Zelda and Salem!! Little fun fact: Salem’s actor is actually red-carpet trained,  but sadly Kiernan Shipka who plays Sabrina is allergic to him.

I am pumped because another blast from the past is coming back (much like She-Ra and the Princesses of Power). Netflix please keep up the good work I sincerely hope this trend continues and I cannot wait to watch the first episode. Hopefully some of the main cast make a cameo or two-I doubt it but still would be cool. With Halloween just around the corner, this is just the thing to get one in the spooky mood.
