World Beyond is the third Walking Dead series

Following in the shambling, gray-fleshed footsteps of the original series and Fear the Walking Dead, AMC has come forward with a teaser for the third adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s zombie epic. This time, we’re going to the World Beyond.

World Beyond bills itself as a “life after the apocalypse” premise, focusing on younger characters who’ve grown up in a world where zombies and anarchy are all they’ve known. But things aren’t all peaches and cream, with authoritarian paramilitaries swooping in to install some semblance of fascistic law and order. What’s a zombie killer to do?

Walking Dead content officer Scott Gimple spoke a bit on the tone of the new series back during New York Comic Con, calling the apocalypse a “normal world for [the characters]… There’s a quest aspect to this show. They’re going somewhere. They have to leave this place of safety to put themselves in a position where they have to fight for their survival and what they believe in. It’s a different kind of story in the world of The Walking Dead, and it introduces a new world.”

Matthew Negrete, a Walking Dead writing veteran, will showrun World Beyond, with a cast led by Aliyah Royale, Annet Mahendru, Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, and Nico Tortorella.

With the original series airing its tenth season now, a sixth season of Fear the Walking Dead slated for next year, and feature films based on the characters in development,  there’s no shortage of zombie-killin’ to go around for those still interested. World Beyond will premiere in the Spring of 2020.
