According to Deadpool’s creator, Deadpool 3 isn’t happening under Marvel

If 2020 wasn’t going bad enough already, it appears as if Marvel and Disney currently have no plans for creating Deadpool 3. In a recent interview with Inverse, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld put it pretty bluntly: “I’m not really that crazy about Marvel’s plan right now.”

According to him, the company is in no rush to figure out what to do with “The Merc with a Mouth.” Despite actor Ryan Reynolds being in love with the character and the box-office return on both films being massively successful, Marvel doesn’t have current plans to do anything with Deadpool.

“Here’s what people don’t want to hear, but thank God I’m a realist,” Liefeld stated. “I feel like Deadpool, the movies, they’ve set sail. We got two brilliant movies, and we live in a culture that always looks forward because all they’re ever selling us is ‘next, next, next.’ It’s the fever. For me, as the fever calms down, people just need to calm down and realize that Deadpool 1 and 2 were released within two years of each other, 2016 and 2018, and I just can’t.”

Now it is very possible that Marvel is just not keeping Liefeld up to date. Recent comments from Reynolds (dating back to December of 2019) have pointed to the film being discussed, at the very least. Maybe something dramatic has changed since, which is possibly what Liefeld is referring to. Only time will tell, but losing Deadpool would be a serious blow to the future of the MCU.
