After the Credits: Child Stars • Flixist

Something quite striking occurred to me today during the current round of Flixist Awards: there’s a remarkable number of younger stars showing up on our lists, especially in the Supporting Actress category. Fourteen-year-old Hailee Steinfeld won that particular award, but also nominated was thirteen-year-old Chloe Moretz, who was still losing baby teeth during the filming of Kick-Ass.Â Melissa Leo was the only actress nominated who is older than 27!Â

I’m really impressed that such young actors and actresses are not only having some fantastic roles written for them, and that they’re doing such an amazing job with them. Kudos to the casting directors out there for finding some incredible talent so early on. I sure don’t remember being able to take “child stars” nearly as seriously in the past, and this is a change I’m very, very excited about.
