Castlevania returns to Netflix on May 13 for its final season

Castlevania

Netflix announced this afternoon that Castlevania will be returning for its fourth and final season on May 13, 2021. The 10 episode series finale will conclude the ongoing story that began in 2017 and likely bring the events up to the conclusion of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. If you think Netflix is done with the franchise, though, think again.

A report from Deadline suggests that the streaming juggernaut is looking into expanding its Castlevania universe with a new spin-off series. Not based directly on any game from the popular series, this new Castlevania show would feature an entirely original cast of vampire hunters that may or may not follow up the events from this series.

Considering how hard Netflix has been pivoting into creating content based on video games, I think the report is true. IP holder Konami never comments on anything, so we’re not likely to get any official announcement until Netflix is ready to make the jump. That should placate the fans that will be upset that Castlevania is ending after only four seasons.

I do hope the exposure that this show gave to the series will wind up with Konami creating another installment. That would be an excellent way to give Netflix the time to flesh out any potential spin-offs.
