Dave Franco will be portraying Vanilla Ice in a new biopic

2020 really is the worst time to be alive. A new report from Business Insider has revealed that actor Dave Franco will be portraying rapper Vanilla Ice in a new biopic on the musician. Titled To The Extreme, the movie will recount Ice’s rise to fame and how he became something of an ironic legend in the early 90s scene.

Franco told Insider that he envisions the film as something akin to The Disaster Artist, a film he made with his older brother James Franco. That was a biopic about director Tommy Wiseau that “celebrated” his creation of cult phenomenon The Room.

“With that movie, people expected us to make a broad comedy where we make fun of Tommy Wiseau,” Franco stated, “but the more real we played it, the funnier and heartfelt it was – that’s the tone we want for this one as well.” To that end, Franco has been in touch with Ice and is looking to accurately capture the struggles he faced while climbing the ranks.

With the coronavirus pandemic still shuttering production in Hollywood, Franco isn’t ready to commit to a start date on filming. He will be keeping in touch with Ice and working on the script in the meantime.
