David Cronenberg has written a sequel to The Fly

The Fly is one of the last David Cronenberg movies I haven’t seen. I think I’ve seen the last ten minutes about a billion times, though. Just never saw the actual movie. One of those things, I guess. Anyway, there’s been a rumor for a while about The Fly getting the reboot treatment floating around for a while now. In an interview with Shock til You Drop, the best thing Canada has brought to the world since Tim Hortons and poutine proclaimed that a script to said movie had been written, but it was more of a sequel than a straight up reboot. Cronenberg had this to say: The Fly is not exactly a remake, it’s sort of a sequel, kinda. Yeah, that was a thing. I’ve written a script of that, and I don’t know if that’s going to really happen, but that has to do with Fox.”

So this is far from a sure thing, but it’s nice to see the filmmaker approaching this as a sequel, rather than rebooting and telling the same story again. I had more faith in Cronenberg than that, so it’s good to see that faith affirmed. I hope to hear a lot more about this project soon. My advice? No matter how stupid it is in terms of the end of the first movie, bring back Jeff Goldblum. That man needs work like nobody’s business.
