Drugs are bad (but fun!) in first trailer for The Wave

Giving off some serious John Dies at the End vibes, the above trailer for The Wave reminds us that taking drugs from strangers is a terrible idea–that could also give us powers and let us hop through alternate dimensions. So maybe they’re not so bad after all! If you feel like you’ve missed out on key formative experiences or that you ought to have a super power or two by now, you can safely go ahead and blame D.A.R.E. for that.

In The Wave, we see Justin Long as an insurance lawyer who goes out to celebrate a big upcoming promotion, but he has a little too much fun when he decides to take drugs from an old man wearing a coat made from the fur of like thirteen poodles. Who would think that accepting hallucinogens from this dude would be a good idea? He’s wearing a literal fur suit. Don’t trust him. But our heroic insurance lawyer doesn’t heed the warning I spit onto the screen and takes a drug that allows him to pop through alternate dimensions that will certainly make his day job a bit more exciting. Then, it’s up to him to track down this furry drug dealer and try to get his head back together.

It looks trippy and cool, so I’m down to see more. The Wave will be hitting Fantastic Fest on September 21, 2019 with no wider release plans announced just yet.
