George Miller to direct Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton in epic film Three Thousand Years of Longing

Famed Australian director George Miller may not be able to make a new Mad Max film for some time, but the man who is also somehow also behind Happy Feet is moving forward with another project. Titled Three Thousand Years of Longing, this film will star both Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton.

Not too much is known about the film itself, other than its supposed epic scale (per Deadline) and that its plot may involve a love story and a genie (per THR). All of those elements put together make very little sense to me, but I’m into it. Miller, who has written the script and will co-produce the film, is shopping the project to studios, with the intention of beginning production next year.

George Miller may be 73 years old, but if Mad Max: Fury Road has proven anything, it’s that the man still knows how to direct action films with an epic scale—that film alone put many younger directors to shame. Whatever this film may be about, I’m willing to bet that it’ll be worth watching, assuming we get Fury Road Miller and not Happy Feet Two Miller.
