Here’s the first image of Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa

I’ve gone back and forth over Lionsgate’s upcoming Power Rangers movie too many times to count now. Everyone has specific fandoms they know too much about and one of mine happens to be the Power Rangers. So for the first time I totally care about the end product as almost my life will be better or worse because of it. Regardless, I’m excited either way because I’m an adult.

Speaking of adults, it looks like the movie is changing things from the original TV series. It’s a given since the movie has a way higher budget than the cheap show ever had (no dubbing over Japanese footage here), and I can’t wait to see what the results of it are. Case in point is the first image of Elizabeth Banks as the film’s villain, Rita Repulsa. It’s a completely different design than the hair horn one from our childhoods, and it looks really cool (and it’s a mix between Turbo‘s Divatox and Scorpina).

Given that the accompanying Entertainment Weekly article emphasizes her “reptillian” look and “golden talons,” I can’t help but think we’ll get the green ranger eventually. It’ll most likely be saved for the next movie, since Repulsa has to lose first, but I’m guessing that she’ll create the ranger in her image. It’s all in good fun, and I’m 100% in.

Power Rangers opens March 27th. Hopefully we’ll get a trailer this summer.

But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.
