By It’s been awhile since we heard what Green Room director Jeremy Saulnier’s been up to. 2018’s Hold the Dark was a low-key Netflix feature, while the director helmed two episodes of True Detective‘s third season this past January. With news of a big name joining him, we now know his next project to be the feature film Rebel Ridge, being developed for Netflix.
Joining Saulnier is Star Wars star John Boyega, who will lead Rebel Ridge. Though details are minimal at the moment, Ridge is described as a “high-velocity thriller that explores systemic American injustices through bone-breaking action sequences, suspense and dark humor.”
Sounds about right for Saulnier, whose Green Room and earlier Blue Ruin feature some truly gut-wrenching violence and a dry, observational wit to their bloodshed.
No date or production status has been given for Rebel Ridge, but expect to hear more. Saulnier’s an under appreciated voice in creating tense, smart thrillers, and pairing with John Boyega seems like the break from Disney the actor might relish.
