Joss Whedon secretly shot a Shakespeare adaptation

[UPDATE: Joss Whedon confirmed to THR that this is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado about Nothing, and that it was shot in twelve(!) days in Santa Monica, CA. Whedon described the project: “The text is to me a deconstruction of the idea of love, which is ironic, since the entire production is a love letter — to the text, to the cast, even to the house it’s shot in.” If you check out the THR link, you can also read some of the casting.]

This website went live last night, announcing the end of principal photography on Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing. What is this picture, you may ask? The answer, simply, is that we do not know. No one, save the Whed and the cast and crew of the film, really does. Whedon somehow found the time during the shooting of The Avengers to shoot another movie with such names as Amy Acker, Clark Gregg, and Nathan Fillion.

As you can see in the header, and on the image in the gallery below, the film is credited as “based on a play.” Given the title, it’s easy to assume that Joss Whedon has adapted Shakespeare’s immortal classic of love and magic Much Ado About Nothing. I’m curious to see if the title is just an allusion to the play or if this is absolutely a real adaptation of Shakespeare from Joss Whedon. If it is a straight adaptation, I think Much Ado fits the best into Joss Whedon’s wheelhouse as any work of Shakespeare could. I look forward to seeing more from this film in the hopefully near future.

Also, if Nathan Fillion is playing Puck, I may die.
