Netflix details its live action Resident Evil series

Resident Evil Netflix series

Though we knew of its existence, the live action Netflix series adaptation of Capcom’s iconic Resident Evil was shrouded in ambiguity. And while we still don’t have imagery or too much to go off of, the series is far from a shambling corpse.

With eight, hour-long episodes planned, the upcoming series will focus on two distinct narratives:

First, we follow sisters Jade and Billie Wesker who are newly moved to New Raccoon City. Presumably built on the ruins of that Raccoon City, the sisters find that things aren’t quite right in NRC, as all things Resident Evil are bound to be. With their father (Albert?) playing a mysterious role in the industrial city’s dark underbelly, the layers of terror unfold gradually until…

Ten years later. The Earth has been ravaged by the T-virus, with humanity struck down to less than fifteen million survivors while the world is roamed by billions of infected. A matured Jade struggles to survive amidst the wasteland, looking to her past and secrets held by her sister and father that just won’t die.

Netflix’s official description for the Resident Evil series dives right into the brand new story, clearly going for an epic scale closer to the films than the tight-spaced games. Whether or not the upcoming series has any direct connection, canonically, to either the games for films remains to be seen.

Produced by Constantin Films, Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) is set to write, produce, and run show on the Netflix series. “Resident Evil is my favorite game of all time,” Dabb said, eager to “tell a new chapter in this amazing story.” He went on to say that “the series will be complete with a lot of old friends, and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before.” Sign me the heck up.
