New posters and images from The Flowers of War

I’ve been getting more and more interested in The Flowers of War as the year draws to a close. Directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Christian Bale, the film is the most expensive Chinese movie ever made. (That distinction previously belonged to John Woo’s two-parter Red Cliff, which itself surpassed Yimou’s Curse of the Golden Flower.)

We’ve brought you a movie trailer and some well-designed poster art for The Flowers of War in the last couple of weeks. Now a whole lot of new images and posters have been released for the film. I haven’t included all of the images available, but there’s good selection of 25 in our gallery.

The Flowers of War centers around an American sheltering students and prostitutes in an all-girls school during the Rape of Nanking. This infamous massacre lasted six weeks, during which time the Imperial Japanese murdered hundreds of thousands of Chinese citizens and sexually assaulted tens of thousands of women and children.

The film opens in China on December 16th and will play Oscar-qualifying engagements in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco starting on December 23rd. A wider release will follow in 2012.
