Next Transformers film gains director Steven Caple Jr

Steven Caple Jr Transformers Creed

Following the successful relaunch of the Transformers film franchise with 2018’s Bumblebee, Paramount and Hasbro have named Creed II director Steven Caple Jr as the lead on the next film in the bot-bashing series.

Though the deal has yet to be locked down, Caple Jr is said to be the frontrunner for the director position, with a contract likely signed in the coming weeks. Multiple Transformers projects exist, this one being from a script by Joby Harold. With the script finished this past summer, Paramount has been on the hunt for a director for the project.

Caple Jr took over the directing position for the Creed sequel from Ryan Coogler, having previously written and directed 2016’s The Land

With plans for multiple Transformers releases in the works, including an animated film from Toy Story 4’s director, the battle between Autobots and Decepticons isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Bumblebee in 2018 was directed by Travis Knight, known previously for his work at animation house Laika, having directed their 2016 feature Kubo and the Two Strings. Gaining Caple Jr off of Creed II makes sense for Paramount’s Transformers game plan, mixing in filmmakers with different specialties and interests for an MCU-like expanse.
