Resident Evil reboot is aiming for a September 2021 release

Resident Evil

Sony Screen Gems is feeling awfully confident about releasing Resident Evil in theaters this year. Despite how theaters are still closed across most of the globe, the company has announced that the reboot of its ridiculously lucrative film franchise (based on the classic Capcom series) will be hitting theaters on September 3, 2021. If that sounds kind of ridiculous, it’s likely because it is.

While we know most of the cast for Resident Evil and have some details on its plot, there hasn’t been a single trailer or still released from the set. For all intents and purposes, this movie doesn’t exist and I find it incredibly hard to believe that anything will be releasing this year. I don’t make those kinds of decisions, though, so mark your calendars for Labor Day weekend.

Comments from the director, Johannes Roberts, at least paint a decent picture of what’s in store. A big fan of the original games, he wants to take things back to the beginning and capture the intensity that the first title had all those years ago. That may be hard to do in a modern sense, but at least this Resident Evil won’t be going off on some weird tangent with Milla Jovovich.
