Tom Hardy plays the title role in madcap gangster biopic Capone

Coming out of the blue amidst a year of delays and major studio sequels, Capone stars Tom Hardy in the titular role of vicious Chicago mobster Al “Scarface” Capone in the first-look trailer above.

Directed by Josh Trank, the film is set to focus on Capone’s final years after serving a ten-year prison stretch. Weary with dementia and hounded by associates to give up his remaining assets, the trailer gives an inkling of the surreal imagery that’s set to haunt Capone as he makes his peace… with death.

Trank may be most-recently associated with the mess that was 2015’s Fantastic Four, but Capone looks to be a return to form for the Chronicle director. With a cast including Linda Cardellini, Matt Dillon, and Kyle MacLacklan, Capone has potential to be a surprise hit.

Given the state of movie theaters amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Capone will be seeing a VoD release next month. This confirmed by Trank on his personal Twitter, where he references the new title, the film having previously been titled “Fonzo.”

Capone hits streaming platforms May 12th.
