Will Smith’s ‘Annie’ hip-hopera gets ’27 Dresses’ writer

When we last reported on rumors for Will Smith and Jay Z’s Annie reboot, all we knew back then was that it was primarily being used as a vehicle for Smith’s impressively talented daughter, Willow (Does Smith even involve himself in good movies that don’t feature his children anymore?). Jay Z is also going to “re-imagine” the soundtrack which will most likely pull from his vast knowledge of “hard knocks,” and will also be the reason everyone will refer to the Annie reboot as a “hip-hopera” from now on.

Aline Brosh McKenna, writer for The Devil Wears Prada and 27 Dresses, is now tapped to write for the hip-hopera. The story will pull from both the Annie comics and the Broadway musical itself. It will also probably be very “urban” to go along with the “re-imagined” score.

I’m pretty curious to see if Willow Smith could still whip her hair back and forth when she has a curly red ‘fro. If not, I’m sure the sun will still come out tomorrow.
