It’s official! Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will go toe-to-toe with Shazam as Black Adam!

“”Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot.” My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics”

With less than 140 characters on Twitter, Dwayne Johnson has finally revealed his role in the forthcoming Shazam film. He will be playing Black Adam, real name Teth Adam, the considerably less altruistic version of Shazam. Like Shazam, he draws his power from the magic word “SHAZAM!,” although his gods are from the Egyptian pantheon, not the Greek one. Black Adam has bounced back and forth between outright villain and complicated anti-hero, and according to Variety, he’ll be “more of an anti-hero trying to clear his name than a villain.”

Shortly after Johnson’s announcement, DC’s Chief Creative Officer and all-around world-builder Geoff Johns, confirmed the casting with a tweet saying “Yes, @TheRock as Black Adam is official.”

While the idea of a twelve-year-old turning into The Rock with a magic word would have been an awesome, awesome movie to watch, seeing Dwayne Johnson with a lightning bolt on his chest is amazing regardless of which costume he’s wearing.

Are you half as excited for a SHAZAM! movie as I am? Does The Rock’s casting work for you? Sound off in the comments.
