Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi set for late May debut

Obi-Wan Kenobi

With one Star Wars show ending today, Disney figured it was time to let fans know when the next would begin. As revealed by the official Star Wars Twitter account, Obi-Wan Kenobi will debut on Disney+ starting May 25, 2022. While many were surprised that May 4 was selected (for that stupid May The Fourth holiday), the release is actually quite significant for one special reason: it will be the 45th anniversary of the release of A New Hope.

With Obi-Wan Kenobi set to expand on the hermit’s life between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, it makes sense that Disney would line things up this way. I’m not sure how many years this series will encompass or when the finale will take place, but premiering on the same day that the entire series kicked off so many moons ago is a great way to pay homage to this saga.

As for whether or not I’ll be tuning in…I don’t really know. I do like Ewan McGregor’s turn as Ben Kenobi and think he’s one of the better parts of the prequels, but I’m just really burnt out on Star Wars media. I also can’t help but feel we’ll be getting even more Luke Skywalker and I just do not want to see him anymore. Let the man rest.
