T2 Trainspotting gets its first trailer full of old references

Any movie from Danny Boyle is a cause for celebration, but a sequel to the cult hit and the movie that put Boyle on the map, Trainspotting, is cause for a bit extra. The first trailer has finally landed and its basically the original trailer, but updated. That doesn’t exactly excite me.

While I have faith in Boyle not simply making a rehash of his original film, and the plot itself would point that it isn’t, a trailer that’s clearly designed to play on almost nothing but nostalgia is not what I was looking for. Of course I’d be lying if I didn’t get goosebumps as the the old “choose” monologue didn’t kick in. It’ll be interesting to see how the gritty and indy feel of Trainspotting plays out now that its director and lead actors are internationally famous. It may be impossible to re-capture that old magic so hopefully T2 Trainspotting doesn’t try.

Also, I know that just calling it T2 would be problematic for obvious reasons, but man is that title awkward.
