Tom Hanks pairs up with Robert Zemeckis for new Pinocchio

One of Hollywood’s most beloved actors, Mr. Tom Hanks himself is going to take on the role of Gepetto in the upcoming live-action reboot of Pinocchio.   Since it first came to light that Disney planned to remake Pinocchio, news spread that Hanks was being courted for the part of the woodcarver who brings the loveable puppet to life. While the casting is not set in stone yet, he has brought another big Hollywood name into the fold.  Robert Zemeckis is set to direct after Hanks brought him into the project, at least according to a new report from Deadline.

Zemeckis has not worked on a Disney project since the 80s on Who Framed Roger Rabbit. According to what has already been common knowledge he has refused to work for Disney since then because of the mishandling of the project by it’s executive Jeffrey Katzenberg. We know he is an amazing director having worked on films with Hanks in the past such as Forrest Gump and The Polar Expres and Cast Away.

This gives me such high hopes for Disney’s reboot of Pinocchio because if the Back to the Future franchise wasn’t any indication that he’s the right man for the job, nothing is.  I will admit that there were aspects of Pinocchio that terrified me as a child, so it will be interesting to see how Zemeckis handles that for a new generation. Will it be scaled down? Or will it stay true to the animated classic? We will just have to wait and see.
