Back in 2017, Netflix released a little slasher movie called The Babysitter and I absolutely fell in love with it. In it, a middle schooler named Cole (Judah Lewis) had to survive the night while his extremely hot babysitter Bee (Samara Weaving) and her high school friends tried to kill him for a satanic ritual. It was gruesome and highly entertaining, hitting that sweet spot between horror-comedy and thriller that made it one of my favorite movies of the year. Now, with 2020 still set to be one of the most depressing years in… well, forever, Netflix and McG, the director of the original, have finally dropped the trailer for the sequel, The Babysitter: Killer Queen.

Set two years after the original movie, Cole is traumatized from that fateful night and everyone thinks he’s crazy. Everyone except his childhood friend Melanie (Emily Alyd Lynn), who is still crushing hard on Cole and invites him to a lake party to get away from it all. Unfortunately, those psycho high school cultists that died in the last movie, minus Samara Weaving for some reason, are somehow back as demons and are seeking vengeance against Cole. They’re still dumb as rocks though, so it’s up to Cole, Mel, and everyone else there to survive the night and not die a horrible death.

From the looks of it, the only major changes to the production staff is that the original writer, Brian Duffield, has been replaced with Dan Lagana, the man behind Netflix’s American Vandal. With most of the original team returning, I don’t want to get my hopes up too high, but I couldn’t be more excited for this sequel. I know it may lead to crippling disappointment, as is the trend of 2020, but maybe, just maybe, I’m allowed to have some hope. Maybe I can get a sequel to a delightful horror movie to brighten my dark and decrepit life that is actually entertaining and enjoyable. Or my hopes can be dashed with minimal effort. Anything goes in 2020, but please let this movie be good. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LET IT BE GOOD.

The Babysitter: Killer Queen will release exclusively on Netflix on September 10, 2020.
