The Rebecca trailer mixes a fast love with haunting secrets

Rebecca

Ah, a tale as old as time itself. Woman meets man, woman marries man, woman moves into man’s family mansion and is haunted by man’s dead wife. A love story if ever there was one, and Rebecca is coming just in time for the always romantic Halloween season.

The many iterations of the story stem from its 1938 book genesis by Daphne du Maurier. It’s been portrayed on stage and both the big and small screen, most notably winning an Academy Award in 1940 under Alfred Hitchcock’s direction. In its upcoming form, Rebecca stars Lily James, Armie Hammer, and Kristin Scott Thomas take on the romantic thriller due out next month.

As seen in the trailer above, things between the new lovers go from light to dark in the skip of a heartbeat. Living the life in the sun and surf of Monte Cristo, the two strangers find a whirlwind romance that results in sudden marriage. Life seems heavenly until they take up residence in Maxim’s (Hammer) family mansion where things go bump in the night and the mysterious Mrs. Danvers (Scott Thomas) refuses to let Maxim’s first wife be forgotten.

Rebecca comes to Netflix and select theaters on October 21st.
